Welcome to BSS's hiring page! 

In this page, you'll be updated intermittently on all of our staff positions. However, to apply you'll be directed to our Discord server. 

Notes You Should Read Before Scrolling Down 

Closed openings are strikes out. To check the latest opening date, see above the updated date. Please refrain from applying for closed positions, as we might be full of that staff. 

Positions have different highlights based on their urgency (some are urgently wanted while others have a lesser urgency). Red means extremely urgent. Yellow means about to be closed. Purple means less urgent but significant. The rest remain the same. 

When you've finally decided on your position, before applying through our Discord, please read the last panel of requirements to know if you meet them. That way, you'll also figure out your job. Good luck!

Requirements

Further down you'll learn what each position requires you to do without delay or fail (unless a specific exception). Requirements for novels are pretty much the same (excluding a few positions).

Translators

  • Must be fluent in Chinese/Korean/Japanese
  • Must have significant proficiency in English
  • Amateur to advance level of efficiency in typesetting (proficiency is preferred, otherwise will be taught amiably)
Cleaners
  • Must have significant proficiency in removing original text from speech bubbles, special effects, text narrations
  • Should be able to provide error free work, by refraining from hasty cleaning (such as leaving an uncleaned SFX)
  • Experienced users are preferred, otherwise can be given significant training
Typesetters
Currently, we do not have such a position. The work is blended with translation.

Raw Provider & Compilers
  • Will be given particular tools for ripping, however should own a suitable device for stitching each chapter
  • Should proficiently provide stitched chapters without gaps between pages (beginner mistakes are always overlooked)
  • Preferred to compile raws within 1-2 days.
  • Must obtain raws from official platforms. Do NOT snitch from Chinese/Korean/Japanese aggregators!
Proofreaders
  • Must have proficiency in both translating language and English
  • Should be able to provide quick and error free results in 1-2 days (no more than 2)
  • Must be able to detect and correct errors, both in the translated language and English
  • Preferred to own a suitable device (i.e. Photoshop, Gimp, Pixlr)
Quality Checkers
  • Must have a good eye for detecting any quality error, that includes:
    • English translation errors
    • Page compiling errors
    • Cleaning errors (especially special effects)
    • Chapter's originally quality (in case some pages get lost or blurred)
Uploaders
  • Must own a suitable device and internet to upload chapters by release schedule
  • Must follow the team's agreed-on upload release schedule
  • Must have registered accounts (of personal or specifically for team) on uploading sites (that only includes MangaDex & Bato)
  • Must ONLY upload chapters on MangaDex and Bato.to
  • Try not to pass by the upload schedule date.
For people who are willing but have 0 experience, please do not hesitate! We all (including me) start with zero knowledge and gradually gain experience by engaging in the work. Scanlation is definitely illegal, but if we all remain in the darks of the internet (hiding from the original creators) we can share our hard work to thousands around the web. Doing it is fun, but please follow the rules of fan translation!
